Altman was graduated cum laude from Harvard College, from Columbia Law School where she was a member of the Law Review, and clerked for Judge Jack B. Weinstein, United States District Judge for the Eastern District of New York.
A native New Yorker, Altman is the daughter of legendary entertainment lawyer Floria V. Lasky.
Emily Altman became President of The Frederick Loewe Foundation in November 2013 after a long career on Wall Street. Until 2008, she was a Managing Director and Head of International Government Relations at JPMorgan Chase and, before that, was Head of International Government Relations for Morgan Stanley for almost a decade. She was also a Senior Policy Adviser at Fleishman Hillard, the global strategy firm. She began her career as a domestic and international banking and securities lawyer at Davis Polk & Wardwell in New York City.
In addition to being President of the Foundation, Altman maintains a practice as a financial and commercial mediator and arbitrator in New York City.
She is a Tony nominator and a member of the Theatre and Dance Advisory Boards of Hunter College as well as the Advisory Board of the Theater Divison of the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts. In addition, she sits on the Boards of Directors of the American Friends of Hebrew University, New York Region, and Supporters of Civil Society in Russia which supports the work of the Moscow School for Civic Education.
